The Chinese Puppet Show (kuileixi) is known as mu'ouxi (play of wooden dolls), in the country, which has its roots in remote time. Traditionally, Puppet Show comes in three forms: the rod-top puppet, the marionette or string puppet and the glove or hand puppet. In China, the rod-top puppet is the most popular show.
The puppet, less than a meter tall, is made with true-to-life features. It is raised overhead at the top of a stick by the puppeteer with one hand and manipulated its action (moving a pair of wire rods) with the other hand.
One of the basic skills required of the puppeteer is to be able to hold high the puppet, which weighs 2 to 3 kilograms, with one arm and to keep it either motionless or moving steadily on the Same as picture level as dictated by the scenario.
This image showcases a classic, hand-painted wooden puppet head from China, adorned with the vibrant red flower pattern known as "Hong Da Hua."
This artwork is not only rich in spiritual and cultural significance but also carries historical importance.
The red flower symbolizes prosperity, happiness, and good fortune, making it a common element in traditional Chinese culture.
Artists have skillfully incorporated this design into the puppet head through meticulous hand-painting, demonstrating their deep appreciation and commitment to preserving traditional culture.
This traditional handcrafting method not only preserves the essence of ancient art but also offers a unique aesthetic experience for modern audiences.
The emergence of the Hong Da Hua puppet head allows people to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the charm of Chinese traditional culture.
It also inspires interest and passion for traditional arts among the younger generation.
